75th Birthday Party...Christmas & July Celebration

My parents will turn 75 this year, my mom July 30th and step dad on Christmas Eve.  So we are having a family/friends get-together on July 30th to celebrate both since we can all get together in July and parents will be in Florida at Christmas.

Any fun ideas to mark the occasion?   It will be a casual cook-out type afternoon at the house...they have a pond for fishing and swimming so doing it there.

All I can come up with is a journal for everyone to write in, or a framed picture of the two of them with a signature mat for everyone to leave 75th birthday wishes....I want to do something fun but just no clever ideas.  Help appreciated :)

  • I am the least clever person ever (really, I used to get grouchy in elementary school art class bc it was too loosey goosey LOL), but I think using LOTS of pics of them through the years would be great.  Don't do a slideshow bc everyone's seen those, but spread them all around the location so people can stop and see them and not all be craning to see around each other.  Try to collect from everyone to display pics that aren't seen often.
  • Display big cards with chosen milestones in their lives (when they were born, graduated high school, bought a house, got married, etc) and include pics, songs that were famous, actors/movies that were popular, fashion trends, current events, etc that all happened in that year.

I like this idea.  A friend of mine got married in April at a plantation.  The wedding was in front of the house, the cocktail hour in the house, and the reception out back.  Every time you turned a corner, or looked on a shelf in any part of the house inside or out), there was a picture of one or both of them with a little card telling when/where it was taken (like, "first date-braves baseball game).  It was fun to keep finding more and more pictures.  Some where in a frame on a table or shelf, and they even had a couple hanging from trees near the present table.

  • Thanks for the ideas.  I did a cd presentation at their 70th party, so pictures/notes sound good this time around.
