My H and I will be traveling to Chicago for the first time this fall. We are MAJOR foodies and have heard great things about Alinea, but with it's steep $195 per person prix fixe menu, I wanted to get input.
Has anyone been there? Did it live up to the hype?
Thanks in advance!

We are HUGE foodies who live in Chicago, and we haven't been to Alinea yet. Even as big a foodie as I am, I just haven't wrapped my head around that price yet, especially since the (now $210) per person doesn't include wine.
Chicago has the most amazing restaurants. You can get an unbelievable meal at so many places for half that price. If I were in your position, I'd do 2 special chef meals instead of one. Or maybe even a great chef's table experience.
These would be my top notch recommendations:
-Bin 36 - amazing cheese and wine and artisan creations. Love!
-Cibo Matto at the Wit - fantastic Italian.
-Province in the West Loop - I'm pretty sure they have a chef's table experience, but even without that, the food here is to DIE for.
-RL - This is the restaurant above the flagship Ralph Lauren store. Again, to DIE for food and you'll usually see some celebs out.
-Maestro's Steakhouse - one of the newest and hottest steakhouses in Chicago, steaks are amazing if you're into that.
-Sixteen at Trump Tower. They also to prix fixe and it's great.
-Blackbird in the West Loop - haven't been there yet, but I've heard it's a "splurge" place as well.
Hands down, best meal of my life!!!!
We went to Graham Elliott for NYE this year and the food was good, but it didn't blow our minds. And his sandwich shop is okay. My husband liked his wagyu beef, but I hated my pork belly sandwich. And the popcorn was stale. It was disappointing!
