Online Surveys

I've heard of these and always thought they were scams.  Then the other day an acquaintance mentioned she takes online surveys for a little extra cash.

Are there legit sites that do this?  If so, can someone tell me about these?  I'm always very skeptical of things like this and with giving anyone personal info.

Obviously, if it's true I realize it won't be something that pays much at all.  But I've been unemployed for almost a year now, not having any luck with jobs lately, and I'm bored out of my mind.  I wouldn't mind occasionally making a few dollars if I'm assured that certain sites are safe.

I plan to do my own research beforehand, but I thought I'd ask here in case anyone has experience with it.

Re: Online Surveys

  • Pinecone Research~but you have to apply and be selected $3 a survey

Is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head but there are a lot of legit survey companies out there. You can always Google for a rating of the company.

I have completed 2 that popped up on FB  for cash and a gc.

  • See if you can search The Nest to find the Survey Bio. I've used almost all of the ones in there at one time or another. DEFINITELY set up a separate email account for them, though---otherwise you'll end up with tons of emails, most of which link to surveys that pay little to nothing. You have to wade through a lot of crap.

  • I know a few people who have done this, but they only make a few dollars per survey. I don't know what your situation is, but you may also want to consider being a Secret Shopper. They don't pay much more. I've seen some for $15 per visit. For this you have to go though and see which are good and bad companies, but there are a few legit ones out there.
  • Thanks for the replies!  I'll definitely look into these places.

Last night I did some research on one and found it was legit -- Survey Savvy.  They're a member of the BBB and I talked to a few people who have used them.  However, like you all mentioned, you have to get chosen for particular surveys. I'll set up a separate email account and if something comes along then that's great and if not, that's fine too.

As for the Mystery Shopper thing, I've considered it before but it makes me VERY cautious.  My H is a police officer and gets calls about people getting scammed all the time.  I would like to think I'm smart enough not to make that mistake (lol), but then again they're sneaky and it happens often.

Thanks for the ideas!  I'm mainly just looking for something like online surveys that's easy to do for a few extra bucks from my own home since I'm here so much searching for jobs anyway.  :)
