What to do @ C-Mas (Charleston)

Dh, BFF and her Dh & I are going to be in Charleston from Dec. 26- Dec. 30.  Looking for suggestions of things to do (or not do).  We're planning on staying in downtown - but don't know if Isle of the Palms would be better.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!  Thanks!

Re: What to do @ C-Mas (Charleston)

  • I can't think of anything not to do at that time of year.  There aren't as many tourists around Christmas (in my opinion) so it may be a good time to do a carriage tour.  I'd stay downtown because then you can walk to so many places for meals.  You could look on the city's webpage and see if there are any events at that time of year also.
  • I'm not sure what is going on during your time frame.  A lot of people returning unwanted Christmas gifts, stores getting ready for New Years, hmmmmm???  I know that there is a holiday parade of boats where they decorate their boats with Christmas lights, but I don't know the date.  You can try the city of Charleston web page or visitors center.  You can always do the usual "touristy" things....visit the Hunley, Charleston Museum, Aquarium, carriage tour, James Island County Park festival of lights, etc.

  • This is a totally silly suggestion, but go to Marion Square (at the corner of King and Calhoun) to see the "psychedlic" Christmas tree. Its a huge Christmas tree like strcuture that you can in and look up. Its called psychedelic because it makes you feel like you are on drugs (or what some of us imagine it feels like to be on drugs).

I do this whenever I'm in Charleston during the holidays.

  • james island county park has a festival of lights set up to drive your car through and around the park at night.
