XP: ? for the photographers

Hubz wants a Nikkon D5100 camera for father's day. Any negatives to this camera?

He is not a professional but does enjoy taking photos and wants a nice camera. Bonus: Best Buy has a 10% off coupon right now so that should help cover the tax on it

I have the D5000 and love it. I don't know about the 5100, but I know with the 5000 you can't bring up what you are looking at on the screen. You have to look through the camera. I don't have a problem with this though. I did pay to take a couple photography classes after I bought mine just so I could use it out of the auto mode. That is really the only way to get your money's worth. The auto mode is okay, but it does the same thing that a point & shoot will do for less money.
