Question/Poll

At what age did your LO quit using a pacifier (either by their choice or otherwise)?

Re: Question/Poll

  • Neena still uses hers for naptime and at night, and occasionally while in the car.

  • I have a thumb sucker- I'm screwed!
  • Let's see, we cut the bottles out at 1 year and C had the binkie a little longer than that.  I think we got rid of it by 14 months though.  It was not by his choice.  We took them away at daycare at 1 year but he still had it at home at night.  Then at 14 months we started the cut method where we slowly nipped a little bit off of the binkie each week until there was nothing left to suck on.  It worked like a charm!  It happened so gradually that C was never upset about it and then when it was cut down really far, he started denying it when we offered it to him, so it was gone!

  • I took all of Ella's away cold turkey at a year! It was a hard night the first night, but I replaced it with a stuffed animal and it worked wonders!
  • We just took it away, she will be 3 in September. She hasn't used it at daycare since 18 months but we have used it at home at night and naps. :)

  • Both of my kids were done with the binky by 4 months. Partly because they never liked them and partly because we offered them less and less as I hoped they wouldn't become binky-dependent (I'm so mean!).

Pretty much the same, and same time frames, but we cut the binkie at daycare first for a week, then at home the next week, cold turkey.  First 2 nights were iffy, but after that, he no longer looked for it!  And, Kellen was a binkie junkie!

  • Cohen stopped when he turned 2, and AJ never used them.

Happy mom to two sweet, silly boys: Cohen age 4, AJ age 2.

Maya stopped using hers at daycare when she was 2.  We continued the bad habit at home for naps and nighttime :)

  • neither of my kids ever had any interest in binkies, bottles, etc. It was annoying to be used as a pacifier in Gretta's case, and not have anything to quickly sooth ingrid, but I guess it is nice not having to break habits later?

  • We got lucky with K.  At six months when he got his front upper teeth in, he no longer had any desire to have it so we just packed them away.

  • Sophia gave hers up completely on her own (and against our choice) one morning at church just after 6 months.  Talk about an inconvenient time, right in the middle of the church service she decided she no longer wanted one!  Looking back it was a good age to get rid of it, but I have no idea when we will try to get rid of it if this LO likes them.

  • Jackson still has his (3) at night and occasionally in the car. We should give them up, but he is STTN for the first time in a LONG time, so I can't do it yet :)

We threw the last one away 2 weeks ago. He went down to using it only at naptime sometime last year. He got to the point where he was chewing through them, so every time he "broke" one I'd show him and throw it away. He's asked for one only a couple of times since.
