Recruiter Questions

I just moved to a new city and am starting a job hunt.  Most of the positions I'd be interested in are listed online through recruiting companies.  I've never dealt with one before.  Do I send a resume to each one?  (There are 4 or 5 different ones so far) Try to narrow it down to 2 or 3?  How do I know if they are reputable?

I miss my public accounting days, landing a job seemed so much less complicated ;)

Thanks for any insight or experiences you can share!

Re: Recruiter Questions

  • I would apply for each job you are interested in, regardless of whether they are posted by different recruiters.  You will probably then get a call from the recruiter(s) and they may want to meet you in person before representing you for a job.  I have found that different recruiters have ins with different companies, so limiting yourself to just 2 or 3 recruiters, when you don't know the area very well, may end up limiting you in your search.  When you talk to them, you will find out which companies they tend to work with, so if you have an idea of which companies in the area you would like to work for that would be helpful as well.
