San Diego Recs

Has anyone ever camped in San Diego?  We're trying to get as close to the naval base as possible, b/c that's where my sister's boyfriend is stationed...

Annnnd we also need ideas for places to eat.

TIA!  Big Smile

Re: San Diego Recs

  • My sister used to live about five minutes from the base. I will ask her and reply back when she gives me an answer!

  • I'm so jealous!! We used to go every year and I haven't been in about 6 years. Those were the best summer memories for me.

We used to camp every summer right on the beach at San Elijo. Their campsites are cheap and have bathrooms with showers. The beach is amazing and they have a small convenient store and laundry close by. The only down side is that it's very close to the Amtrak lines and you might here it early in the morning.

We've also stayed at Campland on the Bay. This is a bigger site with a lot of amenities. They have a swimming pool, activities, game room, etc. Personally, I like staying right on the beach so San Elijo is my first choice.

  • I used to visit with my cousin at Mission Bay, Camp land seems like a really fun spot. I never stayed there,  but always walked by to get to the beach. I hope to stay there sometime in the future. :)
  • I'm not sure if its near where you will be staying, but we went to San Diego in March and ate at this place called Hunter Steakhouse. I got this steak w/ a peppercorn dressing.. it was SO YUMMY! Anyway, I believe this restaurant is in Carlsbad, very close to the beach.. I would just try to google them (I remember them having a website when I was trying to look up their address)
