Resume question

Do people still put objectives on resumes? It's been awhile since my last update. The resume would be for a professional position in a large company.

I didn't say that one would hurt you; however, they're mostly viewed as being worthless, pointless fluff. Your objective is to get the job - you know that and I know that, it doesn't matter how many pretty words you use to say that.

Use your resume space for more important things.

  • No, the objective is generally understood to be "get this job," no need to use up resume space.

  • I write resumes for my clients all the time. An objective is sometimes used as a 'filler' for those people who do not have a ton of work history/experience to add.

Your objective, if for a professional position, would go into detail in your cover letter.

    Good luck!

  • Objectives are occasionally used, usually for people who are brand new to the workforce or who are looking to make a career change. For everyone else, an experience summary is a much better way to start off a resume.

  • Thanks! My sister was looking for a career change...kind of in the same field but with a different type of company, and I will forward the responses on to her :) You all have been a big help.
