Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Public Relations

I'm doing my undergrad (almost done) and I've just recently figured out what I want to do. Originally I was planning on going into law but it isn't the career I want. I've been spending the past 10 months thinking very hard about what I want to do and thinking about this change because it is NOT an easy one for me. I think PR is the job for me and I truly believe I would be very good at it. I love writing, I love talking, I'm passionate, and I love the environment that PR represents and involves (if that makes sense). I'm planning on doing my masters in public relations and corporate communications once I graduate with my B.A.

Here's my question:

If you're in PR, what are the pros? The cons? What advice would you offer?

Thanks...if anyone responds. :)

Re: Public Relations

  • My advice is that interning and being a strong writer (with published clips) will make all the difference. We are seeing some great resumes for some entry-level positions, and interning is the way to stand out. You can also begin doing volunteer PR work if you can't immediately find an internship. Places to start are your local animal rescue or your church.

    Good luck!
