I was thinking today that there are a few things that I either wouldn't have known about or would have found out about them a lot later if it weren't for the nest boards. Do you have anything you wouldn't have discovered without these boards?
Off the top of my head:
IF. These boards have really educated me and allowed me to be more sensitive to the complexity that is IF. I'm really grateful for that.
Pioneer Woman! H and I would have missed some good meals.
Cloth diapering- I would have thought the only option involved safety pins if not for this board, and now I'm using them!
Wraps for baby "wearing" and all I can say is thay I'm so happy!
Ruelala and Gilt. Love those sites!
Etsy
I just thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else has been opened up to the world a little from the boards. Thanks for being here ladies! It's funny to think I came on these boards just to chat and things worked their way into my RL :-)
Re: If it weren't for the nest....
Blogs in general
Pinterest
All those "Mommy Wars" issues (I had no idea that there were so many different ways to raise a kid! And I know there are a lot more that I haven't heard of. It's very interesting)
The Hunger Games series (from the NBC board)
tons and tons of recipes
I wouldn't have even known my own PCOS symptoms until maybe a year later at my next Dr. visit
DYAC!
"gumdrop" nipples lol
Definitely some of the things people said above, like Pinterest and Pioneer Woman.
This week I learned about Brazillian blowouts thanks to Dani's post.
I learned about Smitten Kitchen, one of my favorite food blogs/sites, from Emmieb.
I learned about C25K from someone here too - can't remember who it was though.
Ditto to all of the above.
GTG (both local and far away)
Blogs of all shapes and forms. Did you know my morning ritual is: email, blogs, nest, bump, pinetrest and FB (on my phone)
Green Monsters/Smoothies
That I could cook all my meals in a crockpot-even during summer!
That is ok to vent, cry, scream, yell and AW every now and again
Cupcakes rock
CSA-seriously. I had no idea what they were until I came here.
Lots of the above mentioned things, including
Other things the nest has done for me...
I probably never would have sold any of my quilts, if not for the awesome nesties here that bought them.
I have gained a lot of insight on how to deal with people, like my SIL, that drive me crazy.
When we were evacuated because of the fires so many years ago, I had nesties calling me and posting my twitter updates. The concern really touched me.
When my father was sick, and passed away, the support here was amazing. I can't even really speak about it without crying, but you all helped me so much with that.
Goodness--there are so many.
I am combining the nest and the knot.
I wouldn't have met some of my nearest and dearest IRL friends and that would just suck.
I wouldn't have found out about ETSY or the vast amount of Green Alternatives that I have been using. And with this, I probably never would have ventured into the world of making my own soaps.
I would never have found out about the Oil Method.
I wouldn't have a to do list that includes meet nestyscreen name a, b, and c...
I would have seriously died of boredom at work a million times over.
I would still think CW is a cable channel :-)
There are so many more on the list too. But these are some of the biggest.
AND now i'm in tears..
if it weren't for the nest:
i wouldn't know about:
the spohrs
matt logelin
pioneer woman
crock pot chicken
gtg's
i know there's more..but my brain is failing me.
Oh boy... okay... well, I learned a lot on the Knot, too. Like abut blogs, GTGs, online photo storage and printing, a little html/code, a lot of abbreviations/internet lingo and lots of wedding related help.
1) IF issues, I'm sure I would have encountered a friend with it because it's pretty common but I don't think I would have been as knowledgeable about it.
2) ModCloth
3) BBO
4) Holiday Cookie Exchanges
5) CSA
6) crockpot cooking (my mom never had one)
7) Etsy
8) Everyday Minerals (like Bare Essentials but cheaper)
9) Boudoir Pics (I didn't know the average woman could have them done and it not be skeevy)
10) Fort Bragg (I didn't know it was a good vacation spot)
11) Lots of adoption info from the adoption board
12) And ditto the weepiness about helping me get through LOTS of stuff (dad dying right before DH was in the hospital for months until right before our wedding, brother who's a drug addict, problems with my mom, etc...)Donate to My Pancreatic Cancer Research Page
Ack, now I feel like a jerk for not listing friends! Haha, yes, I've made friends on here also!
And yes, I may have died a tragic death at my desk due to lack of stimuli.
Phew, thought maybe I was just imagining our friendship and the potential play dates ;-)

Nope, you're stuck with us.
I'm coming late to the game, but if it wweren't for the Nest? (amongst what other people have mentioned)
I wouldn't have met such awesome people, especially when I moved...many who have become very close friends.
pinterest
that you cannot have kids until you are completely consumer debt free and have at least half your SL paid off, w/ a baby fund AND a fully funded 12 month emergency fund
that there are entire families complete w/ a sahm and a mortgage (must be a lcol or mcol area to swing it, certainly NOT here) that earn less than i do by myself (mid to high 5 figures).
mortgage payments that are lower that what i pay per month for my SL
eta
how could i forget .. the north bay ladies who lunch
yes i think we should resurrect this !
I would never have made internet friends! All of you have been so supportive during my struggles and I'm so thankful to have you.
I would never have started reading blogs or started my own. I wouldn't have heard of Project 365, or tried the zillion delicious recipes I've gotten from you guys.
I probably wouldn't have started running again or attempted a 10k without the inspiration of Stef and Abvernon's half marathon success stories.
I would still be eating beef and less humanely raised chicken, wouldn't have signed up for WW (and lost 10 lbs, woot!), would never have met you awesome ladies and had fun at the GTGs, wouldn't have any friends who just had babies
, wouldn't have read The Hunger Games or Twilight/Twilight FF, wouldn't have bought a Clarisonic I don't use (lol), might not have gotten as into cooking as I did, wouldn't have anyone to vent to on Wednesdays, and wouldn't know about or as much about organic/free-range/sustainable foods, Pioneer Woman, Pinterest, running, infertility, Fage, pregnancy, varying parenting styles and choices, all sorts of different opinions that have been presented here, Green Monster shakes, CSAs, or your awesome recipes.
And that's just off the top of my head.
Women don't want to hear what men think,
women want to hear what they think, in a deeper voice
