Her: I found that BB gun to give to DH

Me: We don't need a BB gun.  Give it to someone else.  He will just shoot my darling squirrels in the backyard.

Her: YOU DON'T EAT THEM??  They are so good.

Me: Nope.  Sure don't.

Her: I eat them.  I eat squirrels, birds, rabbits, snakes, frog legs, deer steaks, nutria...it's good meat.

Me: Yeah, no, I don't eat any of that.  We won't be needing that BB gun because I am not letting Kerry eat my squirrels.

What's with all of the "you must from X if..." groups on FB?  Someone added me and I deleted myself.  I don't want to see 487 FB comments from people who I didn't like or get along with in HS.  We were not friends then, what makes them think we are now?

ETA that makes me come off b!tchy but really...it was more that people then didn't like me.   I was def never part of the in-crowd.  And in a small school, almost everyone is "in."

I was wondering too. Except I haven't seen one from my high school/hometown. I see other people posting on their high school/hometown. Which is weird. And annoying.

I refuse to read those.  Just a pain.  And I will not add anyone I didn't like in HS as a friend now.  It's our 20th reunion this weekend and I've gotten all kinds of friend requests.  Umm no.

Will be fun to see some of these people though ;-)

Almond - I saw you tagged by some HS friends.  You were rockin' a hot gold dress mamasita!  Looking gooood.

I agree about the weird groups.  And my HS was hood THEN.

A friend posted something like "You know you went to Ike when..." and my replies were:

- You realized the true value of your health when exiting health class to be tackled into the lockers by a friend because you walked out the door right between two idiots pointing guns at each other.

- Someone attempted to steal your car from the student parking lot... while you were sitting on the hood of the car with your keys in your hand.

- The principal (who prior posters called a douche) was your hero when he saved you from being pushed around violently because you walked down "broadway" the day whites weren't supposed to... but you never got the memo.

- Your morning entry into the school included a routine backpack search and stroll through the metal detectors.

Some people replied, "dang it wasn't THAT hood when I was there," and I shared that it must have been my special luck because I have a younger friend who sent from 96-00 who said it wasn't that hood when she was there either.

But I've gone there to vote during the day, even during class change, and it was nothing out of the ordinary. And I fully admit to being skeered the first time Ike was still pretty hood when I was in at Humble in 96.

The above conversation reminds me that I heard on the radio last week that at K. Paul's in NOLA they put nutrea on the menu.  It was a few years ago and it flopped big time, obviously.

Yep.  And they were nice areas when we moved there.  I lived in Arbor Oaks, which doesn't even exist any more.  It was a neighborhood off White Oak Bayou that you'd access from Antoine just south of Victory behind the blockbuster (and I think there is a Sonic there now but there wasn't when I lived there).  The neighborhood was torn down by FEMA after Alison, i believe.  It was nice when I lived there.  Like my neighborhood in Pearland is right now.  So scary to know how quickly it can all change.

Red Dahlia went to Ike after me and didn't have experiences like mine.  Nukem went there a little ahead of me and I don't think hers were as bad either.  I think that being there during the Rodney King beatings was a particularly hard time for the school so racism peaked while I was there.

They also put up the chain link fence around the parking lot while I was there.  It wasn't there when i started.

And they got much better security.  Not surprising once they got to the period of requiring metal detectors at the doors.

::Hangs head in shame::  My parents live in Louisiana.  My dad likes to kill things on the road with "The Silver Bullet"...aka his car.  He doesn't swerve to miss them, he swerves to hit them.  Of course he only does this on our street, which is dead end and there are no other cars coming at him.  He really only does this for rabbits though.  I have known him to eat frog legs, rabbit and squirrel...nothing else really weird.

Duchess/mb - I was a neighborhood away from going to ike. Instead I went to the "ghetto" of cyfair - jv. I just read a fb update from one of my bs friends where she was wishing her son a happy 6th bday. One of the comments was: "happy burfday lil ***". Nice.
