How did things go with your IUD Insertion?  How are you liking it so far?

Re: **Steph**

  • Just saw this, sorry!

CN: It was uncomfortable for awhile, but not super painful during insertion. It REALLY hurt likeabitch for about 2 seconds while she was shifting it into place.  I had the worst cramps that night and the next day, and they've been pretty 'normal' cramps since then.

    Full TMI-award worth story:

So, they had some issues getting it in at first, because my cervix is recessed and tilted apparently? It really didn't hurt as bad as I was expecting though, but that's probably because I read all the horror stories online ;)  My doctor told me to take Ibuprofen ahead of time (about half an hour early) to help ease pain. She also gave me an rx for a cervix softener (I can't think of the name of it right now. It also can be used to induce labor.)  She said it would make the insertion easier, but could cause cramping.

ANYWAY.  Normal pap set-up, feet in the stirrups and all. It was uncomfortable, but no more uncomfortable than a normal annual; it lasted a little longer, of course. I just felt some REALLY uncomfortableness (like a twinge, super sharp pinching kind of pain) for a few seconds.  However, she did say I had a higher pain tolerance than normal.  A few minutes in, I asked her when I should expect it to start hurting.  Her response "really? It doesn't hurt yet??" ha.   I was fine right after, but I downed some Aleve just to be safe.  About an hour later, the cramping hit, and it hurt. It hurt pretty badly for the next day or so. I had it done Thursday afternoon, and I ended up calling in sick to work on Friday.  By Saturday morning it wasn't awful. But, I had really mild cramps for the next two weeks or so.  I switched between Aleve, Midol, and ibuprofen and they were fine.  I had SEVERE cramps in high school, which is the reason I went on the pill in the first place. Like, passing out from the pain, on the floor of the bathroom in school, kind of cramps.  So, that might affect why these cramps hurt so much. It was definitely worse than what my cramping has been like the last 10 years or so (since I went on the pill), but no worse than what my 'normal' cramps were like before that.   I bled off and on the first three weeks; mostly on though. It was never heavy, and never really even like a normal TOM. It was mostly dried blood and like the stuff that I usually get at the end of my period. But it was there, and it was a pain in the ass to be honest. It's now about 6 weeks after I had it done. I had a good 3 weeks or so with no spotting. I just started my period again last week. It's been weird again. Super light, but lasting longer than normal. I'm on like day 9 now, but it's been very off-and-on.  Cramps were pretty bad the other morning, but that's just because I wasn't expecting them. Took some midol, and I was good to go.

WAY too TMI, but I had the worst cramps yet after H and I had sex (and I, uh, finished.)  Apparently that's normal at first though.  (yeah. try googling "orgasm cramps IUD" haha)

Alright. There's my novel. Any more questions? :) Even through all of this, I'd still totally recommend it. (I'm assuming/hoping that recommendation will grow stronger in the next 2-3 years as the cramps/spotting lessen even more!)
