Okay, I have been on birth control pills for about 11 years now, and I think I've only ever missed one dose, as I am completely paranoid about taking them as prescribed.
This morning, my alarm woke me to take it, and I stumbled into my bathroom, half-asleep, as usual. I popped the pill out of the pack, and put what I thought was the pill on my tongue...but the foil came with it, the pill slid out of my mouth...and down the drain. Of course. They're so dang small!
It's my last week of active pills, and Thursday should have been the last one (monophasic). I just took the next one in the pack and figured I would abstain from Thursday until my cycle starts this weekend. Does that sound right?
Sorry if this is tmi for people. I figure most of us are on some sort of birth control. I knew this would happen to me eventually.
Re: BCP question...possibly somewhat tmi...
I'd say it's probably overly cautious if anything.
As I said...totally paranoid :P
And, I have to laugh at myself that I almost swallowed foil thinking it was my pill. I heard the "clink" and just said, "Well, sh!t."
I don't know if it's technically correct, but this is exactly what I've done in the past, in this situation. I've even missed one entirely (without taking one from the next day), and been okay. I hear stories all the time of people missing one pill or taking it at the wrong time and getting pregnant, but it hasn't been the case for me.
I feel like there's some serious knocking on wood to be done after this post.
I believe this is the protocol. If I were a good patient, I'd call my doctor's office and ask a nurse. But, I've been on them for so long, without problems, and it's the end of the month for me, I think I should be good.
I'm a Friday starter. I like to be different. Actually, my first doc (ah, Planned Parenthood) wanted me to start right away. Must have looked like a hussy.
I know that panicked feeling! I take my pill rather religiously and this happened to me once (I never found that elusive pill!) and nothing bad happened. I talked to my OB and she said that while this is common, it is always best to just continue on and if any weird symptoms occur, contact them.
None did. I think it has a lot to do w/the fact that taking the pills so often your body has gotten them in the system. The directions always advised against missing 2 or more but more than likely, 1 is not a cause for too much concern.
