How was your weekend?

Highlights?  Best thing you ate?  Best thing you did?  See any good movies?  Read any good books?

Please, someone post! I'm so desperate I've even started haunting various Bump boards.

Re: How was your weekend?

  • It was wonderful!  We did a family day outing and it was so needed and so enjoyable.

We ate home all weekend so nothing fancy, but we did have some crabs from our neighbor last night that were very good.

  • Highlight: Dress shopping on Saturday morning ( I found something at my 1st stop). We went swimming Saturday afternoon and A loved it.

Lowlight: Annabelle sleep like crap on Friday night-thanks to the storms. Dinner at my IL's. Not really sure why we go over and beyond trying to get together with them when they act like getting together was burden.

Best thing I ate: Fresh veggies on the grill.

Best thing I did: Spending yesterday w/DH and A at the park.

I'm still reading The Paris Wife, hopefully I'll finish soon.

  • Highlights? Lots of park time, movie time with DH, finished my sewing project and started a new one. Best thing you ate?  Last night's dinner - steamed shrimp, steak, sweet potato fries and broccoli au gratin. See any good movies?  Watched No Strings Attached - it was pretty good. Read any good books? Reading the latest Sookie Stackhouse book - I've really been slacking in the reading dept.
  • I had a pretty awesome weekend, and the week ahead isn't too shabby, either.

Highlights: sushi lunch with a girlfriend on Friday, dinner out and a shopping spree with DH & DD that night*, a trip to the Bel Air farmer's market and breakfast with friends early on Saturday, DH's Father's Day dinner at Stony River on Sunday night, baking DH's dessert request (which he loved), lots of reading and pajama time for me

    image

Accomplished: Getting all of the laundry done, including all of the new clothes DH got on Friday, the sheets and towels, etc.  DH had trouble keeping up with the laundry when I was out of commission and it's a thrill to have absolutely everything clean and put away.

Watched: Shrek 3 - eh, not impressed

Read: The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory - not my favorite, but a decent read

    * Proudest Moment: When I started dating my husband 6+ years ago, he dressed like a perpetual gamer: ratty t-shirts (most of them black or some faded version thereof), ugly and ill-fitting jeans (often white-washed and tapered), steel-toed black leather boots (he's a computer programmer - I'm fairly certain that mouse doesn't plan to attach his toes anytime soon), black leather biker jacket, and of course the long hair.

Over the years I've urged him to expand his fashion horizons and while he still has plenty of tees in his closet, they're new, in a wide array of colors, and get tossed/donated when they've over-stayed their welcome.  He selected a slew of button-down and polo shirts on Friday night without my prompting.  His jeans fit.  He wears casual shoes.  The leather jacket has been relegated to storage in the basement.  His friends tease him about being a yuppie sell out, but I think he actually looks like an adult now, and not only do I like it, but he does, too.  I'm so proud. Party!!!

The week ahead: I'm having dinner with my Dad and my sisters tonight as a belated Father's Day celebration.  On Friday I have a doctor's appointment in the AM (here's hoping there's finally visible cell growth in the fracture!) and then have to drive down to Vienna, VA for a meeting with work.  I'll be down there for a few hours, then am stopping in Glen Burnie on my way back north to spend time with family who will be in from out of town.  I'll be down there most of the weekend as well for more of the same.  I *love* getting to see my South Carolina family and Mia is so excited to see them as well.  I hope Friday gets here quickly!

Best thing I ate: Fresh veggies on the grill.

Agreed- last night we grilled salmon & veggies and the veggies were so good.

Highlight- Game of Thrones finale last night, and watching the previous 4 episodes over the course of 2 nights to catch up H before the finale.

Lowlight- Trying to use coupons at the grocery store and ending up spending way more than we usually do.  Coupon Fail.

Best Thing- Seeing my grandmother & dad yesterday, getting in the pool for the first time this year.

Reading- Halfway through Persuasion, it's slow but I'm hoping it'll pick up soon so that I can finish and start Sookie Stackhouse book 6!

Movie- not this weekend but the week before, I saw Bridesmaids, which was hilarious- highly recommend!

LOL this board is dead....and I can never think of things to post to help out!

Weekend was great!  We visited my parents in St Michaels, took their boat out, went tubing, etc.  The dogs love it down there and both H and I really enjoy spending time  there.

My mom made this and omg it was amazing. It'd be a great meal on a hot summer night - very filling!

  • It was a great weekend, although it went by way too fast. Saturday was playgroup in the morning followed by some errands and stuff around the house.

Sunday we went to Little Havana and met my dad and his girlfriend for brunch. Had a great time and I had a delicious burger. Sean ate some of everyone's food plus his own plate of pancakes and loved all the boats and people to look at. That was probably the highlight. Then we just hung out around the house.

Lowlight would be Sean waking up at 3 am again last night!! I am soooo tired today and feel like I can't get anything done.

That's why I don't bother with coupons for grocery shopping - I end up spending more and buying crap I don't usually buy!  So annoying.  Stupid coupons.

And I'm dying to see Bridesmaids.  I was going to see it last week with a friend but we flaked 'cause we're old and boring and didn't feel like staying out until 10pm on a school night.

  • Oh and the  best thing about the week ahead happened this morning.  I was whining to H about how Stevie Nicks' tickets (for Jiffy Lube Live in September) are available for pre-sale now but only if you have an AmEx card and I dont have one yada yada yada.  Apparently he has one from years ago that he never uses but keeps bc some places only take AmEx (like Live Nation for their presale Hmm ) SO he bought tickets this morning without my knowledge- and they are GREAT seats too, one row behind the orchestra section!!! That's the closest I've ever sat for Stevie/FM concert.  I am so.freaking.excited.

  • My weekend was good but tiring because we drove 2.5 hours each way on Saturday and again on Sunday to go to dog shows.  It was hot outside too, Keefer and I both prefer cooler shows.

    Oh Becky, how cool!

We're going to have to end up getting an AmEx at some point because I hate that there are so many shows I can't get pre-sale tickets to.  That's awesome that he had one and was able to get you great seats!!

  • Highlights?  Got a fair amount done on the house.  Radiators are out, one wall is down, caaarefully took out the flooring from what was our closet and will eventually be the hall bath tub.

Best thing you ate?  Marinated short ribs at the IL's house for father's day.  It's MH's favorite dish growing up and it's so damn good.

Best thing you did?  Threw radiator covers and pieces of door trim and framing out the window into my front yard.  Very satisfying.

See any good movies?  Read any good books?  ha!  no.  We woke up, worked on the house, ate and slept.  Sunday night we went to the IL's for dinner, but friday and saturday we did nothing but work work work.

I also have an AmEx card from years ago that I never use, except for the 1 time that I heard about a ticket presale for a concert that I wanted to go to!  It comes in handy from time to time.

It's so stupid!  (that you have to have one for this type of thing.)  I'm glad he had it because I am very excited clearly, but I'm annoyed at live nation lol.

I want to put a Stevie concert ticker in my siggy but cant find one cool enough for the occasion.  LOL.

AND to complete my happiness (lol), Lindsey Buckingham is also touring this fall and will be at Goucher on September 30th. So one month, one Stevie concert, one lindsey concert. Wa.hoo.

  • Highlights??LO has been pulling herself up. I put her on her playmat in her room while I changed clothes. When I came back, she had scooted over to her humidifier, turned it on, pulled herself up and was standing over it with the mist blowing in her face. Not my best parenting moment, but still cute! Best thing you ate?? My MIL's chicken sate w/ peanut sauce. I had some leftovers for lunch. Best thing you did?? Gave DH his Father's Day presents (a Legend-daddy tshirt and the DAD picture frame that everyone is doing on thebump.) See any good movies?? Fell asleep during Inside Job. I am notorious for passing out during movies. The King's Speech is coming tomorrow. I'm determined to stay awake for that. Read any good books? Does Cooking Light First Foods count? -Sorry for the formatting, on my iPhone.

  • It was great - though we have so many things going on right now that I have to tackle every to do with blinders on to keep from having a melt down.  Friday we had the beginnings of some major work done in the backyard, which was fantastic.  Saturday, DS and I cleared out while DH did the priming for our bookshelves - which are really starting to come together.  Sunday was a great 1st Fathers' Day for DH.  We went to a bbq at my parents and everyone had a blast.  DS even dozed off on his 90 year old great grandpa after a watermelon juice-laced bottle of water. ;)

Highlights?  After I left work on Saturday DH and I went to Giant and bought some groceries for the GTG we were having later that night. We got home, did some prep work on the foods (marinated the meats, peppers, cooked chicken for crack dip, etc) and cleaned up around the first floor. Then when people started showing up I wasn't running around trying to do things last minute. That was my highlight. Normally I am so stressed out I don't get to enjoy our company.

Best thing you ate?  We made skewers for the GTG and DH put together a few just for me to eat (just the meats, no onions or peppers). I also enjoyed the BBQ version of crack dip that I made. Yum!

Best thing you did?  Got the house cleaned up to be 'guest ready'. I need to keep it this way and am going to try and make a conscious effort to do so (did dishes on my lunch break today)

Then yesterday DH and I got to meet our newest nephew. He is too darn cute. So teeny tiny and a snuggler. He fell right to sleep right on my chest and stayed asleep for at least an hour so that my SIL could shower and rest. And he smells devine! New baby smell trumps new car smell any day in my book.

See any good movies?  We rented 'The Rite' through RedBox and watched it last night. It was alright. Different, not bad.

Read any good books? I have been slacking in this department. Like whoa.

  • Highlights? Probably DD's smooth transtion to toddler bed.  She did great, loved the bed.  The 2nd night she moved all over the room (slept on the floor) but was happy.

Best thing you ate? Crab grilled cheese sandwich from Nick's Fish House yesterday - yummy!  We had a fun late lunch there yesterday w/ our parents and my sister.  Eveyrone got along, DD was super cute - it was a nice father's day.

Best thing you did?  We drove up to Cumberland to take the Western MD Scenic Train to Frostburg.  It was OK, but not that scenic and it was hot as crap, so we really weren't in the mood to wander around exploring Frostburg.  Oh well - we tried it and it was fun, but probably won't go back.

See any good movies?  Read any good books?  No and no - I'm working my way through "Kitchen House" and 123 Magic (Toddler/kid discpline book)

  • Highlights? Best thing you did?  Getting a manicure/pedicure was fun this weekend. Now I feel like the summer can start! We also started our cat on medicine for her infection and insulin for the diabetes and she seems to be in better spirits so that is a good thing!

Best thing you ate? Didn't really eat anything all that great this weekend. I had hoped our lunch at Paladar in Annapolis would be really excellent. But it was just so-so and our server wasn't that great either. Plus there was a bug crawling on the window by our seat :(  I have a feeling it's one of those places you go to for the bar and not so much the food. Unless we just picked the wrong things to get.

See any good movies? The only movie we saw was The Green Hornet. I enjoyed it and it was different than I expected.  We did however see a concert that was really good!

Read any good books?  Haven't made any progress in Water for Elephants. But I did read an US Weekly.

  • Highlights?  One of my best friends is visiting from San Diego so we've had tons of fun these last few days. One of the highlights was my first jet ski ride :)

Best thing you ate?  Oh we've eaten at some fabulous restaurants in the last few days, my favorite would be split between the CMP dessert at Woodberry Kitchen and the wilted spinach and crabmeat from Tapas Teatro.

Best thing you did?  Split a pitcher of sangria and then went to a movie :)

See any good movies?  Just saw Midnight in Paris... it was pretty good.

Read any good books? Finished The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. It was an interesting book that incorporated the events of Columbine into a fictional story. Right now I'm reading The Almost Moon by Alice Seabold and The China Study.
