Scottsdale Resort rec?

DH and I are looking into staying at a resort in Scottsdale for a few days for our anniversary.  We recently moved to Prescott from out of state and miss the "big city" lol   Our anniversary is in August so we are hoping there might be some good summer deals since who really goes to Phoenix for summer vacation, right? :)

Any recs?

Re: Scottsdale Resort rec?

  • DH & I have stayed at the Firesky Resort in the past, and loved it.  The service is amazing, the pools are great, and they have so many little alcove type areas where you can sit and hang out.  A group of my girlfriends just stayed there a few weeks ago, and they had nothing but great things to say about it as well.  I highly recommend it.

I've also heard good things about Hotel Valley Ho.  I have no personal experience there though.

  • It kind of depends on what kind of atmosphere you are looking for,,,

The Talking Stick Resort and Casino (obvisouly for the casino, but it is new, trendy,)

The Camelback Inn- more laid back

both of these are near downtown scottsdale where all the action is, good shopping, dining, etc.

    The W

    Hotel Valley Ho

  • That is good to know about the Firesky - it was one I was really considering since it had really good reviews.

As far as what we are looking for...  a nice pool and close-ish to downtown are the main criteria. We don't plan on spending a whole lot of time there but will likely want to hang by the pool (as long as we can stand, I'm sure it will be HOT).  Price is an issue (though we are prepared to spend some $$) so we'll be basically trying to get the best place we can for the best deal.

we stayed here for dh's birthday and their pool is super lame. it's really small, and on the weekends college kids invade it and there's some kind of 2 day pool party with a very loud dj. we tried to go to the pool a few times and it never happened. there were just a lot of people and nowhere to sit. if that won't bother you, otherwise it's a nice hotel. the rooms are awesome and we were within walking distance to bars, restaurants, etc.

  • Hi there! I grew up in Scottsdale and did staycations every summer with friends. My fav resort hands down is The Westin Kierland. It has the most amazing lazy river that floats throughout the resort! Also has some slides & the pool is huge!

  • My favorite is The Sanctuary, I LOVE it there!!!  They have a really nice infinity edge pool and my favorite restaurant/great bar!  My H and I stayed there on our wedding night!

  • Westin Kierland!!
  • Has anyone suggested Kierland yet? We stayed there and it was fantastic. The service was phenomenal. I ate too much at dinner one evening and wanted some Pepto, the staff hand delivered it to my room. Oh and we got stuck at the airport and couldn't get our rental car, so the resort sent a town car to pick us up.

ETA: I obviously wrote this before reading all the responses.

  • Wow, you ladies have completely inspired me to check out Westin Kierland. I just booked a night for next weekend for my DH and I. Just an FYI, if you're a government employee, they give a great discount.

That's awesome!  I used to work there (first at the front desk, and then I moved to the Sales and Catering office), and I know firsthand how amazing the staff is.  It really is a wonderful resort.  I miss working there!
