I saw you mention in the post about building a green house that you recently built a greenhouse with reclaimed windows?!  I see A LOT of windows for free etc on craigslist - and I never would have thought of this!!!

  • I don't know jenny's plan, but make sure you're using tempered glass, like storm windows or old storm doors.  Regular windows are hard and firm because they're built into the frame of your house.  I don't think they're shatterproof on their own.

    We used an old window with regular glass to make ours, and it's been fine for two seasons (well, I did bust one pane when I dropped something on it, but I'd blame that more on me than on the window :) ).  The panes on ours are about 9"x12" I'd guess, and there are 4 or 5 of them.  We used a plan like this:

    Ours also has a second lifter frame underneath so that we can keep them in the box even after they get taller.

    ETA: Ours is a cold frame, not a greenhouse.
