Paraguard-IUD

Does anyone know of a GYN that stock paraguards in their office? Apparently my insurance will pay for it if the office stocks it but not if I have to get it through a pharmacy?

Re: Paraguard-IUD

  • I don't know of any specifically, but can tell you that if the practice is affiliated with a Catholic hospital (Mercy, St Joe) they probably will not have it in stock. The office I worked in was affiliated with Mercy and we kept in in stock for a long time until the Sisters caught wind of it and then there was a big uproar and they were no longer able to keep them in stock (something about purchasing it ahead of time and the whole Catholic Church not condoning birth control). Not sure if that helps, but I figured if you were going to call around you could avoid those.

  • Thanks. I did start calling and you are right. St Joes definitely doesn't.
  • The Hopkins community physicians should--we had it in the hospital clinics at JHH and Bayview. It's a really great option for birth control!
