care package ideas?
I want to send a care package to a friend who had to go to her hometown (5 hours away) to care for an elderly parent who's moving to a nursing home. She'll be there 2-3 weeks at a minimum, maybe longer. The whole situation is really tough for her and I'd like to send something to try cheer her up a little bit.
Any ideas on what to send? Candy/treats/snacks? Magazines? Books?
Her dad lives in a really small town (less than 200 people) so restaurant or coffee shop gift cards aren't really useful there as there's only one little local cafe.

You mentioned coffee gift cards?.if you think she likes a certain place for coffee could you send her a bag from her fav coffee house? I would like to get an assortment of magazines if I was stuck in a small town, but she might be able to get them herself from a gas station.
Is your friend is someone you hang out with in a group on a regular basis? When I had a friend in Iraq, I took pictures of his friends doing things and had them write him a note on the back and send them off?.it was his favorite thing I sent because he felt like he was still a little in the loop of all the fun things his friends were doing and that he was not forgotten about. However, I had a lot of time to put those together, you might not be able to do that. Maybe you could take one quick picture of your group with a ?thinking of you sign? and have everyone write a little note.
Nail polish (even if she has plenty getting it might make her stop and think that maybe she would take a little time for herself during the day).
A good book...if you know a good funny book, that might be best.
The new Tina Faye book Bossypants is pretty light and funny. Otherwise David Sedaris is great in that you can just catch a chapter at a time.It's very thoughtful of you. Maybe an Itunes giftcard for some new music?
