I got laid off - theladders.com question

Hey everyone - well, about three weeks ago I got laid off. For about two months, I knew something between my boss and I wasn't right...he finally did the deed a few Fridays ago. I was devastated but...after three weeks of self evaluation, I am thankful.

I got a massive severance package - over 6 figures, so I am not in any real hurry to find a job BUT I found a job that would be a perfect fit on theladders.com.  Last week I submit my resume, and today I was notified by email that they would be calling to schedule an interview.

I don't want to get my hopes up - but given I had to pay to see most of the jobs listed on the website, I am just worried about how the website works. I guess I am worried that they will send me on a ton of wild goose chase interviews in an effort to get me to buy a longer membership..??? 

Has anyone gotten a job from theladders.com - how does it work?

so sorry you got laid off, but hell yeah for the six figure package and the time to self evaluate. sometimes getting laid off opens opportunities for bigger and better. my husband worked for the ladders, so hopefully i explain it well! the ladders is a recruiting tool that companies use like monster and career builder. but for positions paying $100k+, whichyou dont usually find on other sites. the difference is that people like yourself pay for a membership to theladders.com for the opportunity to apply to those jobs, so the applicant base is usually more serious and qualified for those positions. theladders.com arent the ones contacting you for interviews, its the company recruiter where the position is open. hope that helps, good luck!

You are exactly right - the person that emailed me IS the company recruiter - I was so freaking excited to get that email I never even bother to look WHERE the person was from.  Dumb!!

Thank you so much for your detailed response - I feel much better about the website.  The email said that someone local would be contacting me "soon" to set up an interview time - I received the email at 10am - it is already 5:30 - I want my phone call!

A good friend of mine was contacted via theladders and landed an awesome, 6-figure salary job in management at a large corporation.  She is incredibly happy, supported and challenged (in a good way) at her new job.  SHe has been there for a few years now.
