Revised bridal shower menu - WDYT?

I posted a few weeks ago with my menu for my sisters bridal shower that I am hosting on Saturday. I've made a few changes....WDYT? Shower starts at noon and there are 22 people coming.

APPETIZERS (not doing too many appetizers because we are serving lunch at 12:30)

Cheese / Cracker plate

Lemony tarragon crab dip with salt & vinegar chips

BLT dip w/ crackers

Asiago cheese dip w/ rice crackers (not sure on this yet - do you think the first 3 appetizers are enough?)

LUNCH

Chicken salad w/ Croissants (chicken, mayo, celery, peppers, pecans, craisins)

Fruit sald (watermelon, honeydew melon, cantelope)

Green salad (lettuce, strawberries, mandarin oranges, almonds, bacon & dressing)

Pasta salad (cheese tortellini, roma tomatoes, pine nuts & pesto sauce)

*I was thining of making a pistachio jello salad or a broccoli salad (mayo based dressing, bacon & raisins). WDYT?

Cake will be served afterwards.

Re: Revised bridal shower menu - WDYT?

  • I think it looks really good.  I don't think you need another appetizer, especially not another cheesey app.

You know your circle, but a jello salad would not be eaten in mine.  The broccoli salad is up to you, but I probably would do another veg side.  Even if it's just a vegetable tray.

  • I'm by no means a good cook, so I'll leave the real culinary advice to the other ladies on this board.  My comments are as a potential guest.  :)

    - I would consider something other than salt & vinegar chips for the crap dip.  Maybe some french bread slices or pita chips?

    - I think 3 apps is enough

    - Would you possibly consider replacing strawberries/oranges with tomato/cucumbers on the green salad since you already have a fruit salad.

    - I don't think you need the extra salads

    - I would add some some croisants or rolls.

    HTH!

  • All sounds good but the bacon on the salad.  I personally hate bacon and most women I know do as well.  At least set it to the side as an option so if someone doesnt like it they can opt not to put it on.  Plus you dont have a veggie sandwich in case someone doesnt eat meat so the salad would be their meal.

  • I was thinking the cheese tortellini salad for people who don't eat meat. Its a filling salad.

The bacon on the salad is very small crumbles so not big pieces and its a small amount. Maybe I'll set the bacon to the side with the dresing.

Like PP suggested, maybe a vegtable tray instead of the broccoli or pistachio jello salad?

  • Apps:  Skip the Asiago dip but add vegetables to the other dip plates.  Red peppers and orange carrotts add healthy options and are pretty on the plates.

Main Menu looks good but I would definitely add the broccoli salad.

Do you know if you have any vegetarians on the list?  Most of your salads have meat added to them and there aren't options for the vegetarians.

  • - Serve the crab dip with something in addition to salt & vinegar chips.  (I'd have to be marooned on a desert island to eat them, I dislike them that much.)

    - I definitely think three apps total is plenty, but I'd add veggies in there somewhere.  Right now, you have three dairy + carb apps.  Consider salsa, hummus or adding carrots or celery with one of the existing dips.

    - Change your green salad to a savory salad since you already have fruit salad.

    - I like the idea of a second sandwich or substantial option.  I know you said that was what the tortellini was for, but most people will grab some of that for a side.

  • I agree with everything PP have said. As a vegetarian, I'd highly appreciate another non-meat option being added to the meal! Smile

You could move the fruit salad to appetizers instead of meal time.

What kind of women are you hanging out with??? I don't know anyone who doesn't like bacon (except for vegetarians, and even then it's often not so much a case of not liking it but rather choosing not to eat it).

Anyway, OP, I think your menu looks fine, and I don't think you need the extra dip. If anything, I'd have hummus with veggies. The entrees look fine to me, there are plenty of options for vegetarians.
