Renting Steam Cleaners

We want to steam clean our rugs and rent a cleaner from the grocery store but I am worried about bed bugs. Is this totall unfounded?  I've never worried about this in the past but with all the stories about the bed bugs, now I'm a little worried. What if someone rented one who had them? Would they survive in the machine?

No idea but good question. Do you know anyone personally that has one that you could borrow? I think i would look into that route before renting one from the grocery store.

Yes we borrowed one from DH's cousin but it didn't do the job like one of those big steam cleaners do.

We rented one of the Rug Doctor machines from a grocery store near our old house to use on our rugs to help sell our house.  I never even thought about bed bugs to be honest.  I'm not sure if they could live in them or not.  On the plus side, that thing did an amazing job!  We actually had our own Bissell cleaner and it broke, so we had to rent and it got out so much more dirt!

Bed bugs die at high heat..... so I would think you are ok?  You can always leave it in your car/black trash bag during the heat of the day and let it cook them, if you are scared.

I think they get way too hot to worry about that. I have rented one in the past and it did a great job although very heavy.
