What would you wear for business casual?

I just graduated college and am starting orientation on Monday for my first "real" job. They said to wear business casual, so what would you wear?

I would do black slacks with a dressy light sweater and some nice jewelry. Remember, with things like orientation, you'll likely be in a conference room, so I'd definitely wear layers in case it's freezing like some places are in the summer.

Ditto.  Also, sometimes in orientation, people from other departments are brought in to meet you and discuss their dept.  You want to look as professional as you can just so that you make as positive a first impression as possible. You never know when/how you'll run into these people again.   This isn't a time to pull out the casual khaki's and comfy shoes.  Go for "business casual", but still dress it up.

Nice dress trousers, like a season-less wool type trouser, with a a shell and a sweater. Low heels. Usually things like this are very cold, but sometimes a/c goes out, so you want to have layers. Keep the jewelry minimal and classy. 

Once you are in the job for awhile, then branch out and try more interesting things, after you see how everyone dresses. But, for orientation, I'd keep it simple, classic, and temperature-appropriate.
