Runners.. are you handling the heat?

Wow.. it was super hot when I went on my run this morning (which ranks up there with my worst run ever.. but for other reasons that I wont discuss).

1) How did last week go?

2) Plans for this week?

3)  Do you skip runs when its this hot?

  • 1) I ran once last week. It was a busy week and I did mostly other cardio in the gym.

    2) This week, I'm keeping inside the gym and doing other forms of cardio. (treadmills make me want to jump off a bridge). 

    3) YES! I hate heat/summer.

  • 1) I got 3 out of my 4 runs in. I just can't seem to get that 4th day, but I'm going to get it this week!

    2) I plan to run the same 3, 4.5, 4, 6. I have a 10K in a few weeks, so sticking to a max of 6 miles.

    3) I will not run when its super hot. 70 is pushing it (it was that when I ran this morning I'm sure.. if not 75). I will do it in the morning or sometimes when the sun is almost set but never midday as thats just asking to pass out. I always am amazed when I see runners on the weekend around lunchtime when its so hot.. I dunno how they do it.

  • 1) I tried to take it a little easier last week because my ankle was hurting. I did the strength training circuits last Tuesday (which included some running - but I took it easy on the running part). I skipped Thursday's run to rest my ankle. And then Saturday I ran for 50 minutes at Inspiration Point in Berkeley with the TNT group. I did okay -- but found some of the hills to be tough. And my stupid ankle started hurting some more again.

    2)  I took the last couple of days easy again, so tonight I may try the elliptical machine at the gym (I'm skipping the hill repeats training in Concord tonight because it's too hot!) Otherwise I'm planning on a 2 miles run on Thursday, and a 5 mile run on Saturday... feeling kind of scared about that 5 miler!

    3) I trained through the heat last Tuesday. But tonight I'm not going to. It just doesn't seem safe considering the run is in Concord, and it's a Spare the Air Day.

  • 1. It went okay, but didn't get the amount of running in that I wanted or should have done.

    2. Ran this morning with the dog since I was working from home - it was warm and that was at 530am! Will push runs out to 7 or 8pm in the evening, H wants to start running again so I told him I could cook dinner when I get home, we can eat half or 1/3 of it and then 2 hours go running and then come home eat the rest and shower.

    3. Yes! If it's too hot, I won't take my dog with me or I'll start super early or go late at night. Lots of fluids, salt tabs for runs over 6 miles and some powerade once I get home.

  • 1) How did last week go?  I don't think I can run anymore.  I was in pain from my last run on Thursday for 4 days.  I'm going to talk to my doc about it on Friday but I may be putting my running days on hold till after baby comes.2) Plans for this week? Rest.3)  Do you skip runs when its this hot?  Yes and no.  If I can go early morning or to the gym I'll do that instead of running outside.

    That sucks but you have made it so far! Great job!
