Anyone sit courtside?

I'm just curious if anyone has ever sat courtside at a basketball game.

My husband's 30th birthday is coming up this year and I'd really love to get him courtside tickets to a Celtics game, but I realize my chances of getting these tickets are slim to none. Anyway, I figure it doesn't hurt to try.

If you've sat courtside, how did you get the tickets? Did you know someone that had them or did you get them on your own?

Thanks.

Re: Anyone sit courtside?

  • I've sat courtside before. I used to work for a basketball team and was able to sit in the courtside seats if they were empty. It's definitely an experience, but honestly, it's kinda hard to see. Especially if they are on the other end of the court an in the corner. But, I still think that it's something you should do at least once if you're able to.

Just saw your response.  I wondered about the visibility myself, but I agree it still seems like a cool experience.

Do you have any idea how a a regular person without connections like myself, might be able to get tickets?

  • We sat courtside once for a college basketball game (that was held in the NBA arena, so simliar experience I would think).  We were in the second row, near the center. It was actually a lot of fun.  You are VERY up close and personal and we were able to see a lot.  Because it was a pre-regular season tournament game, the tickets were not that expensive, but I'd imagine for NBA games, they are crazy expensive.

We also sat behind one of the benches/glass level at a hockey game - that I DO NOT recommend.  We could hardly see anything - you have all the coaches and the trainers blocking your view and we watched most of the game on the jumbotron!

  • I think your best bet is just going to be browsing ticket websites...Stubhub, Razorgator, etc. You might not be able to get on the court tickets, but you can probably find tickets within the first 5-10 rows. Any seat on that area will still be fun and quite the experience for your husband's birthday!

  • I'm just responding because I don't visit this board often.  I am a HUGE Celtics fan (From Texas!) and got to see a game in February when I went for vacation.  I got the tickets through their website and I believe it was from a season ticket holder.  They played the Nets, so I think that's why I was able to find courtside seats.  We got to see Ray Allen's Mom and sit right behind the Nets bench.  It was probably one of the best experiences in my life!  Good luck!

  • Celtics might be tough just because they're a popular team. DH was able to find Wizards courtside seats pretty easily but... well... it's the Wizards.

Ditto just start now cruising all the ticket sales websites. DH found his through Craigslist but some of those tickets (especially the more expensive ones) can be fake.

And yeah, visibility isn't all that great. It's nice for the novelty of it but I actually prefer to be up about 5-10 rows.
