So it's time for our latest installment of "Guess why my in-laws suck ass!?!?!"
Round one:
It's Friday night, we arrive after a harried day of travel (and a half day of work for me that started at 5am...). Do you think my in-laws would...
a. Take us back to their house for a home-cooked meal and let us relax
b. Take us back to their house and let us rest for a bit before dinner
c. Take us to their house to let us at least change and freshen up before dinner
d. Go right from the airport to dinner at a nice place, knowing full well that I look like a nightmare in Under Armor capris, t-shirt and flip-flops without putting my face on or brushing my hair
If you answered d, you'd be correct! This was after DH had told his parents that I'd be up at 4:30 to go to work, and would probably like a bit to change and decompress from my 30 hours of work in 48 hours total before we traveled. Of course, somewhere in that mix I lost my favorite pair of sunglasses. At least dinner was good, despite the side-eyes from the other diners about my attire.
Round two:
Guess which one of the following acts of horridness my MIL performed at dinner to rankle me to the bone on Saturday night:
a. Made loud obscene comments about diners at other tables
b. Made loud obscene noises about every little thing, like "Unnnh!" and "RRRR!" and other such things that would normally emanate from a toddler
c. Spat food on me while talking with her mouth full
d. Harrassed me about something I didn't want to talk about, despite my polite efforts (and DH's not-so-polite "you can shut up now, Mother" interjections) to make her stop
Well, if you made any of the guesses above, you'd be wrong. The answer is E: ALL OF THE FREAKIN ABOVE
(wut.)
Final round!
It's Father's Day Brunch. DH's whole family and my father are invited to a nice resort restaurant for brunch. This is the first time DH's family has seen my dad since my mom passed away.
Label the following statements about brunch as "true" or "false"
Everyone made an effort to converse with my dad
Everyone made an effort to converse with my dad about things not related to our family's deaths
DH's uncle did not interrupt my father or me every time we said something
DH's aunt did not the entire event into "we miss our daughter at summer school waaah" pity party
My father said he'd love to go back to brunch next year.
If you answered False to each of these, you win the prize!
(now excuse me while I go and procure a valium prescription before the next time we see them for our anniversary...)
Re: I haven't done one of these in a while...
You lost your favourite sunglasses? That SUCKS!!!!
The rest sucks as well, but at least you can try and laugh about your in-laws...but you can't laugh about losing your sunnies.
Maybe we can start a "my In-laws are crappy" support group.
I am a little conflicted right now...here's why:
1) the trials with your inlaws seem almost too good to be real (meaning, it's like it happened in some sort of movie plot circa meet the fockers style)
2) you have presented them in such a hilareous manner
3) I seriously can't believe this all happened in a matter of 2 days!
I feel for you...and I also thank you for sharng - I miss your posts!!
Do you have a punching bag handy?
Wow..... That is pretty insane!!! I applaud you for even gracing them with your presence, and not smacking everyone in the face!!! I seriously would tell my DH that the next time he was planning on getting together for a "family get together" that he would be going at it alone!! I am shocked that they treated you like that. I am so sorry that you had to deal with all of that this weekend :-(
I agree, we do need to start a "My IL's SUCK" support group!!!
Wow that sounds like a pretty sucky weekend. Sorry your IL treated you this way. At least you don't live close to them and have to put up with this BS all the time. My IL are 3 miles away, duh duh duh....
I also area with the "My IL's suck" support group. Maybe a "My IL suck Monday?"
