I hate when a job posting disappaers before it is supposed to

On more than 1 occasion I have seen a job posting with a specific end date.  I get my application all together and then go to apply (still before the end date) and it is gone!  Poof!  That is so frustrating.  Sorry but I actually try to tailor my cover letter to the employer so it can take me a few days to get it all together.

  • For most sites, the end date of a job posting is just a standard thing and doesn't really hold true for how long they are going to be posting/open.  I know what we do has a 30 day standard posting timeline but we close it as soon as we have enough candidates for the job.  Just a word of advice, most employers don't really read the full cover letter and are more interested in your resume.  I would tailor the resume for the job instead of the cover letter and submit it quickly.  Even though the job market is picking up, there is still a lot of competition.

    Agree.

If an organization is a federal contractor the sense of urgency to take the post down as soon as you have enough candidates is even higher because you have to ensure you dispositioned every single applicant and have selected the most qualified (or moved along the minimum qualified who are of an underutilized protected class if that job has been tagged for affirmative action).

  • They have through UH so their site is different in posting period/accepting applications and that is why I am frustrated.  I realize for normal company sites if I see it I need to apply ASAP (and most don't require a cover letter so it is easy).   Oh well, it was a long shot to begin with.
