  • When I graduated I just got money from most people.  There were a few people that got me like photo albums and stuff but mostly it was just money.  I havent been to many grad parties but when we do go we give cash.

I guess if you know where they are going to go to college you could do gift cards for places to eat around school or a gas card or a book store gift card,

  • Since its family, I would say $100 would be fine.

  • Cash - as others have stated.  We give $100 to close family & friends.  $50 to everyone else.

Wow, I wish I had been related to you!  :o)  When I graduated HS, most people gave $20-50.

Ditto.  I think the going rate depending on your relation to the person is $25-$50.  I have never given a HS Graduate $100.  Call me a cheap ass, but the most I will give is $50.  Give what you think is acceptable and what you can afford.

  • I think we gave $50 to DH's cousin several years ago.  I remember just being grateful for any amount received when I graduated.

  • Maybe I'm getting it confused with weddings then. I would say $50 would be good too. I cant think back to my grad party and the amount of money I got from people.

  • I drove by a Bob Evans and the sign said "Grads love Bob Evans gift cards", so that could be an option....  although I think that sign was lying cause I would have been pissed to get a Bob Evans gift card for my graduation.

  • We didn't go to a party for someone we aren't that close to, so we spent $25.  For most people, we would give $50.  We gave $75 to DH's cousin because we are really close to their family, but that is the max.

Oh, and we did a gas card for one of the neighbors.  But that's because his mom pays for everything of his and we knew the cash would likely end up spent on video games.  So at least the gas card meant his mom didn't have to spend that amount of money on gas for him.  It was out of principle.

If you're a cheap a$$, then so am I! I'd give $50. Although, if the kid is taking a car to college, a gas card is a good idea too.
