Rhode Island Nesties
Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

FYI for those who frequent other Nest/Knot/Bump boards

ETA: I'm adding a couple of solutions to this spamming problem that you can try if you are encountering these "over-links" on your Nest-browsing travels.

Haven't seen the issue pop up on the local message boards like this yet, but I thought I'd give you ladies a heads-up. There have been reports from numerous boards about this new kind of spamming, so I wanted you to be aware! I managed to figure out how to go in and edit these offending posts, and spent a good portion of today doing just that. There's a noticeable absence of Nest admins as of late, and so the moderators are all kind of fending for themselves.

You may notice that you open a post where all the links redirect to a non-Nest site, like winddeal.com. This is not a new way that the Nest is trying to sneak in advertisements. It's spam.

There have been several spammers that have been able to successfully mask all the true links on the pages. You'll typically see that these winddeal redirects are happening on a page where a reply is apparently left blank by the poster. They're managing to put a transparent "image" over the page that links to their website. Anywhere you click within the limits of their "image" will open a new window taking you to their site.

Please glance at the bottom left hand corner of your screen when you hover over a link that has been posted, or any link on the page especially if you're reading a thread that has a blank reply. If the link shows that it will be redirecting you to another site, like winddeal, don't click it.

You can block the spamming poster (again, lately it's been the one who replies with a blank response), as one of the Nesties on the Craft board suggested -- http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/54943932.aspx

But, if you happen to notice a situation like this, please at least let me know the screenname of the blank reply. I'll report it to the admins and give the other moderators a heads-up about the new alias of the spammer, as well as attempt to remove that particular spam from the thread that you saw it first.

Hey, somebody's got to do it, right?

SPAM BLOCKING SOLUTIONS

Option 1: BLOCK THE USER
Block the spammer- but, don't click the link to block them right away. Use your tab key and tab over (there are a LOT of links on the Nest pages, so it will take a little while- when you highlight the original post in the thread, start paying attention- you'll highlight the block link under her soon enough). Hit enter when the block link (under the spammer's "blank" post) is highlighted. This will have to be done for each new spammer.

Option 2: BLOCK THE SITE THE SPAM LINKS REDIRECT TO

You can block the site winddeal.com on your internet browser. All of these solutions can be found in this post, but I'm trying to consolidate to make things easier to pass along.FIREFOX:
