Thoughts on commision vs salary?

Just wanted to know others' thoughts: if your husband's the only one with a job, and he's happy with his commision-only job, do you worry due to the month-by-month uncertainty and lack of stability and want him to find, if possible, a salaried position?  Or does it matter to you?  Do your feelings change if there's a mortage to pay and/or a baby on the way?

Re: Thoughts on commision vs salary?

  • There are a few things that matter to me.  If the industry is one that is growing and the commission even on the low end is efficient.   If you are maxing our  your saving, e-fund, etc especially if you can't live on the low months.

Health insurance?  Is it paid out of his commission or on top of it.

So if all bills and then some can be paid when things are low, and its an industry that is not tanking right now, I'd be okay with it.  When it is not at the low end, I would be socking money away like crazy preparing for low months.
