Girls night: sangria and tapas

I'm hosting a sangria and tapas party for my girlfriends on Saturday (6-7 pm start). I'll be providing a good base of food and the sangria, but people will also bring tapas to share. Do you think a paella would be too much or would you do something light like a goat cheese an tomato tart (or both)? What would be your must haves for the party?

Re: Girls night: sangria and tapas

  • I don't know about you but I love bread with my sanria. It helps to soak up some of that wine!

This strawberry bruschetta is something I always like to serve, or your goat cheese and tomoto tart sounds good. This Savory Party Bread is something that has been a big hit before. Or a cheese fondue with bread to dip is a must for my group!

  • I think it really depends on the types of tapas that people are brining to determine whether or not you need paella.  Do you know what people are bringing or is it all a surprise?

Is anyone bringing tortilla espanola (potato and onion omelet)?  That's my fave!

  • So far people only have committed to dip-type stuff (salsas, black bean dip, guac, artichoke dip). So I was thinking of adding something a little more substantial to it.
  • I would do the paella and serve it in small cups or bowls (single serving style) and skewers of beef with chimichurri sauce or skewered chicken or shrimp with a spice rub.  I think that along with the dips & chips everyone else is bringing, you will be fine...and full!
  • Then, yes, I def think that you need paella.  GL!

  • I would do the paella. Like the PP serve it in small portions.

    Have fun!

Yes, definitely do the paella and if you can do the tortilla too.  Serve the tortilla either in thin wedges or in bite size pieces with toothpicks.
  • Have you made paella before? I consider myself to be a decent cook and it's not easy to make. Just keep that in mind if you haven't...Do you have a good Sangria recipe yet? I have a very easy but yummy recipe. If you would like it, here it is: http://www.stylebaggage.com/?p=1078 I also have a fabulous brie appetizer and shrimp salad that I think would be perfect to add to your tapas menu. You've got me inspired to have my own "girls night" party...I like your concept a lot. :)
