painting question

i want to paint out guest room this weekend. last time i did it some of thr blue paint leaked onto the ceiling through the tape. so i need to touch up the ceiling in places. how do i do this without having white splotches (i am not repainting the ceiling). maybe i'll just have to live with the brighter white spots. it's better than blue spots when the room will be light brown.

Re: painting question

  • Make sure to get a flat ceiling white paint and it shouldn't be noticeable.

When we moved into this house there were some water stains on the ceiling and we just painted over that part in the guest room and you'd never know

  • Depending on how long ago your ceiling was painted you may end up with white dots. The good thing is that it'd be by the edge so it won't be a huge deal.

I personally hate painters tape for painting by the ceilings. I just freehand it, but I've painted lots of rooms in my life. It bugs me way more when I spend the time to tape and still get paint on the part I didn't want paint on.

  • When we did Ava's room that ceiling hadn't been painted since it was built which was oh about 7 years ago and when we tried touching up around the edges you could definitely see a big difference.

So we ended up painting and we just had an extension and got the paint that starts off pink and turns white so you know exactly where you're painting and won't miss spots.  We only needed to do one coat and it was pretty easy.

Otherwise yah you could at least touch up the blue areas and that'll make it look much better especially since you're going with the brown family

  • i'm not sure with white and with ceilings...when we prepped our condo to sell we had to touch-up the walls and we just painted the spackled spots with no issue and no blending problems. i had painted those walls over 6 years earlier and we didn't have to go like paint the whole wall. we used little disposable sponge rollers (they're in the paint section) and that helped to even out the "edges". i was shocked...those things are awesome AND no cleaning! :)

  • Agree with first post, make sure it's a flat paint and it shouldn't be noticeable.

Before we moved all our stuff into our house last year we painted all the rooms and I wasn't impressed with painter's tape, we had paint bleed through it and I had to touch up the ceilings and trim.
