Clematis

Will this take over if I plant it on the side of the house? H's grandmother gave us one and I feel like I HAVE to plant it, but I'm not really sure where. Will it climb our siding, or should I install lattice for it to climb?

Clematis is generally small well behaved. It will probably need some support to get it started climbing.

I've never seen Clematis climb a wall, but I've seen it climb a telephone pole.  I think it needs structure of a lattis or pole of some sort.  I actually like Clematis. You can easily whack it back and keep it in control, it's not a fast crazy climber.

    I love clematis.

  • I love it as well, but I can't get it to grow without burning up.  I planted some extra annuals at the roots this year to help protect them from the sun.  Hopefully this will be a good year.  At least it keeps coming back for another shot though.

  • thanks for the tips. Now that I have one, I'm noticing lots of my neighbors have it and it seems to grow pretty well around here.
