DH are driving to Chicago in a couple weeks. Are there any interesting or must-see places along the way?

There's a really good one near Eau Claire, but I can't remember the town. I know there's a huge sign near the exit that says cheese curds and the store is right next to a gas station. Sorry I can't be more specific.
As a kid I always liked stopping at the McDonalds that spans the highway on our way to my grandma's house. :-)
