3 unrelated questions (fruit, legs and alterations - ha!)

I just didn't want to board hog, but I was hoping some of you might have some input on the following:

1. I'd like to buy all organic fruits/veggies, but it does get kind of pricey.  Does the wash that is supposed to remove all pesticides, waxes, etc. kind of level the playing field?  I bought some at TJs and have been washing all our fruit in it, it makes me feel better, but it'd be nice to know if it is almost as good as not having pesticides to begin with.

2. What do you all do to keep your legs nice and smooth?  I've always been a shaver and haven't had many problems until recently, but now I just can't get my lower legs nice and smooth. It like leaves tiny stubs of coarse hair, gives me slight shavers rash, or both.  I've switched razors w/ the same problem.  I tried veet based on a neighbor's suggestion, but was far from impressed.  it didn't work too great (I left it on plenty long) and made my shower disgusting and slippery.  I had to wash the floor when i was done, which was a huge pain.  I remember using nair when i was in HS and didn't like it, but perhaps it has been improved over the years.

3. I know this gets asked all the time, but where are some good west side seamstresses/tailors?  I have to get a bridesmaid dress altered a little and it needs to be done by July 16th (I finally was smart enough to try it on again last night after i remembered that I might not be the same size when it was ordered 2 months postpartum).  I'd like someone who would do a quality, but cheap job, since i will prob only wear once.  i'm totally fine w/ people who work out of their homes.

Thanks!

  • 1. Fruit and veggies-we try to stick to the dirty dozen and buy organic. We find that buying at the farmers market is cheaper. I buy some frozen, too. I have no idea about the wash. 2. Wax. It's worth the money. Seriously. And if you have a high pain tolerance, do your arm pits, too. My friend who specializes in waxing, just had her baby on Monday. Let me give her a few days and then I'll ask for a recommendation or when she's going back to work. She's awesome. I have her do all of my waxing when I'm back in Iowa. 3. No idea. Sorry!

  • In regards to alterations I have a recommendation- her name is Dee Schreffler and she is out of Beaverdale. She is great. Did my wedding dress and TOTAL all the alterations cost $30. She hemmed it and had to take it in twice which included bead removal and once was 5 days before the wedding! She is definitely an eccentric lady working out of her home and is a bit socially awkward but she does great work for a great price and can get things done very quickly! Let me know if you want her number!

that is CRAZY cheap!  I'd love her number if you don't mind.  you could pm me on FB if you'd rather not post it here.  I'm used to eccentric old seamstresses, one did my wedding dress too. I thought I got a good deal for $80, $30 is unheard of!

  • 1- I try to buy organic when I can, but other than washing I think you're fine. What's this wash that you bought?

2- Try using Conditioner instead of soap/shaving cream. H has skin issues, and I buy GASP-Cootchy from Pure Romance to shave with. SO amazing! But when we run out of that I just buy a cheap hair conditioner and it works great. I also think the razor makes a difference, what brand are you using and how many blades does it have? I shave everytime I shower, so I know what you mean, those bumps hurt!

    3- I got nothing :( LOL
