HELP! Urgent cover letter ?

I haven't been on the nest in forever, but hopefully someone here can help me.

I am writing a cover letter, and I have the name of the person to send it to.  The name is on the job posting, so no excuse not to use it for the cover letter.

Here's my problem.  The person's first name is a unisex name.  Since it was safe to assume s/he is not there on the weekend I looked up the number and tried calling, but it's one of those computerized voice mails so no clues there.

How do I address the freakin' cover letter greeting?!

If s/he was a Dr. it would help, but no such luck.  I feel like Mr./Ms. Lastname might be insulting.

 WWYD?

Re: HELP! Urgent cover letter ?

  • See if you can find this person on Linkedin.. there might be a picture or possibly a recommendation from someone that uses the appropriate pronoun (he/she) which would be a giveway for you.

You could also possibly try Facebook but with the privacy settings it may be tough to make sure you have the correct person.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks.

Ended up googling her and finding a seminar she led with a picture.

     Yay!  Thanks!

Thinking I should come back to the nest while I''m job searching and hang out for a while, eh?

  • Good, glad you were able to find her using google. Thank goodness for google, what did people do before it existed? sometimes I wonder. I was in the same situation as you just recently, except the name I had was a foreign name and it took a couple of google searches to find out the gender of the person I had to write too..
