How was it? H and I want to do one in September! Would you recommend doing one?

Re: Melko! Warrior Dash recap?

  • hey! thanks for asking!

The race was sooo much fun, but it was definitely an all around experience.

    1. It rained almost 2 weeks straight in New England, so that made MUCH more mud than they anticipated. It even downpoured the morning of the race, which made parking miserable. We actually had to join the 11am heat instead of the 1030 heat because friends of ours we're late from parking traffic.

    2. Overall the race was a total blast, and we were stomping in mud, throwing mud at each other. Although some people seemed annoyed we were being messy, which annoyed us because its the warrior dash..duh.

    3. The obstacles aren't hard, but they aren't easy. I realized at the top of the wall that I'm afraid of heights, and two men had to physically place my legs for me I was so terrified. This led to me skipping the second wall.

    4. DH and I stayed together the whole time, and even held hands coming down into the finish. The MC said, "aww aren't you two cute, Kiss her!" so we kissed at the finish line, adn they took our picture.

     5. Since I was covered in mud, I ended up getting poison ivy all over my body, but my friends are somehow fine.

If it wasn't for the heights, I would do it again in a heart beat.

Ooo, I'm afraid of heights, too. How high was the wall? I'll probably do the same thing you did and skip the second one if the first is too scary. Also, why does poison ivy love you so much??? I'm sorry, that sucks :(

Question: did you have to throw away everything you wore and/or was there anywhere to change? I wouldn't mind wearing clothes I'll end up tossing, I'm more thinking about what shoes I should wear.

Ditto Panda's "awwww" on #4! That's really cute!

  • I'd say that it was about 20 feet or more? There was a rope that you had to pull yourself up with, but there was nothing on the other side, besides ladder like planks.

I threw out my tank top, but I'm in the process of washing our other clothes. They have a huge pile where you can donate your sneakers. they will clean them and then donate them.

there are no showers, just a firehose type thing that goes into a huge industrial fan, and people just stand in front of it. I thought my nipples were either going to freeze or rip off it was so cold and strong. there also isnt anywhere to change, luckily 13 years of swimming taught me how to change in front of people without flashing anything.

I had a couple days of insanity when I decided to wear my normal running sneakers. My only other option was a "bright clean" pair that is too tight, and makes my feet numb, and I didn't want to be the as$hole that showed up in bright sneakers. I had the idea that I would wash them out and still wear them, but once I saw how full of mud they were, I donated them.

So, yes, I'm in the middle of training for a triathlon, and I have to start fresh with sneakers. dumb.ass.

20 feet is REALLY freakin' high. Holy crap. I guess I didn't notice the wall when I was looking at the description! Everything else looks do-able and/or awesome.

I'm sure I can maneuver changing in front of people. The firehose thing sounds terrifying, so I'll steer clear of that!

I'm bummed FOR you about your shoes :( I don't know what I'll do about that - I only have two pairs. One, my running ones (which I love too much to destroy) and two are my crappy shoes that I love using for dirty softball. Maybe I'll just buy cheap-o new ones for softball? Donating them after the dash seems to be the best option.

I have until September, though, so I don't need to stress quite yet...although we want to do this in July, and I'll probably have a similar shoe issue: http://beachpalooza.com/register2011_chicago.php

  • My H did one in May (which I was supposed to do with him but b/c of my achilles I couldn't do it) and he also had a blast. We want to do one together next year once I can run again.

And I also think Beachapalooza looks fun but the closest one to me is FL or TX :(
