This is silly of me but...

Today, we were in DM all day. We were about 30 minutes from home when our landlord called to see if and how much flood damage we had. We were clueless because it was barely sprinkling where we were and the last forecast we had heard was 20% chance of rain late on Sunday night.

We hurried home to find about 2 foot of sewage in our basement. The hot water heater is gas and the burner was under water so we have no hot water now. Our deep freezer, which was up on blocks, was half under. Several totes of yet to be unpacked stuff were tipped, thus water seeped in. Power tools and cans of paint went under. Etc, etc, etc.

I though am just embarrassed that my landlord is going to see my pads floating around because of course the bathroom trash can spilled and is everywhere.

Tomorrow, I'll be upset about the rest.

  • Ugh, that sounds awful! I hope everything turns out ok.

  • I'm sorry you are flooded AGAIN! Part of my territory for work (I work in insurance) is Creston and it is notorious for flooding.. I hope it stops flooding soon and/or you are able to find a different place that doesn't end up with water all the time!

  • Ugh - so sorry to hear that :(  This rain really needs to go away!
  • Our landlord is really great. He beat us to the house last night and was getting his sump pump ready. Because there was so much water, his sump pump burned up after 4 hours of running. So at 10:30pm, he starts making calls to find another to borrow. After he found another to finish getting the water out, he hosed everything down and helped get all the crap (literally) out. He was still here after 1:30am.

This morning he sent someone over to fix the hot water heater already. I think he's going to be back later today when he gets off work to finish cleaning up, but H may have told him not to worry about it.

H says that a couple of the totes were ok so we may not have lost as much stuff as originally thought. We just got our lazy butts out of bed about 90 minutes ago though so we haven't surveyed the damage yet.
