AW: Foodbuzz 24x24: Sweet Summer by the Chesapeake
For those who may not know, the website Foodbuzz works with 24 bloggers each month to put on an array of parties all occurring on the same day. My proposal was selected this month so I got to host a party showcasing food produced in my home state of Maryland!
I have photos, the menu and the party set up here: http://ourshareoftheharvest.com/2011/06/26/foodbuzz-24x24-sweet-summer-by-the-chesapeake/
This was so fun, I have to think of my next theme so I can submit another proposal!

Thats awesome! I love the idea of using the griddle for the crab cakes too.
Everything looks delicious! And go you for being chosen
The food looks really fresh and summery.
I love eating locally - for the desserts for the 4th, I plan to get all the fruits from the farmer's market on the 2nd.
The only thing from Maryland I've ever made was a Smith Island cake. (Did you buy yours? You didn't post a recipe.) I had a friend from MD who was going on and on about it, so I thought it must be something incredible. I slaved over the original recipe from some old lady in a newspaper article, spending hours to perfect it for Easter dinner. Not only did it taste just like a box cake, it actually fell over during the meal, each of the 10 layers sliding one by one off the cake stand onto the sideboard LOL. There's this story of my mother taking a diving leap with a dessert plate to catch some of the layers...and if you knew my mom's sweet tooth, you'd understand this would be normal for her lol! So I'll stick with Maryland's unofficial food: the crab cake
PS - your hair looks cute down - I just think of you with it up in curls like your itty bitty wedding pic.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Thanks! I was so excited to host even though trying to prepare for a party and take nice photos of everything is more hectic than I imagined.
Tar Heels, I made that cake but since it's a complicated recipe and that post was already insanely long, I'm going to give it's own post later this week (same with the chicken, ceviche and sangria). It actually wasn't hard, once I got the hang of putting in the batter, spreading it thin, baking it, flipping it out, waiting for it to cool a bit, flipping it onto to the stack, spreading a bit of icing and repeat. This recipe was from a local lifestyle magazine. I really liked the unique texture--the icing kind of seeps into each layer so the whole thing is moist and the cake and icing flavors blend together unlike any other cake.
You're right, though, the components are really just a yellow cake with a cooked fudge icing. No special flavors.
