For Tar- pics

This house sat empty for 5 years before we bought.  We've been in it for 6 years and have been doing a little bit every year to get it back in shape.  We've redone 2 bathrooms, a basement (including a kitchen) and painted the kids rooms.  This fall we're tackling the upstairs kitchen.

We've been working on the yard little by little too.  We had help with the waterfall, but everything else has been DIY.

Back of the house (this hasn't had much love), but you can see the firepit.

There is so much more and there were so many we ripped out.

Re: For Tar- pics

  • Wow!  It's all gorgeous.  What a great place to spend an evening.  I do love the style of your house, too; I grew up in one similar.  I love the ferns on steroids outside the screen porch.  I can't imaging DIYing all that.  Beds, sure, but patios and such, no.  And I mean, I'm a Rosie the Riverter DIY kind of girl, but I dislike yard work almost as much as I dislike studying.  Speaking of, if you'll excuse me, I have a final in 17 hours...   Sorry for the short reply.  <schlumping back to my corner of the library>
  • Good luck on your final!

I hate yardwork with a fiery passion.  I'm the indoor keeper and DH is the outdoor.  My job is to watch the 2yo while he "helps" daddy.  It's extra special fun with a 3 month old strapped to you.  The nieghbors laugh heartily at us.

  • Ha!

DH and I have similar divisions.  (His mom did the strangest thing with her two sons - the older one, DH, who could go outside when he was older, did all the yard work; the younger one, BIL, was tied to her apron strings.  BIL can iron, polish silver, dust (no, not gay, but I thought he was for years); DH can lay a beautiful brick sidewalk and chop firewood.  They absolutely are incapable of doing the other's chores.  I'd rather have a well-rounded husband, but I think I got the more useful of the two ;) )
