I know this isnt Whats Cooking- but who has made cake pops?!?

I am in charge of food for a baby shower in a few weeks and one of those parts is dessert. I was going to do cupcakes, but I am thinking that Cake Pops might be a good idea. I am not sure if I am brave enough for fancy decorating - however, I can cover and add some sprinkles..

Question is- what cake did you use and what tips do you have for me?

I am also in need of a few finger food ideas. This is supposed to be a super girly shower and I HATE making food for them. Right now I have shrimp salad, tea sandwiches, caprese salad skewers, cheese plate and fruit and veggies with dips. Any other tips?

  • From what I understand, they're easy. You just use a boxed mix, canned frosting, and almond bark to coat.

However, i will say I'm not a fan.

  • Check out this girls blog. She has what sounds like a really easy recipe to make them.

  • you menu sounds great!

As far as cake pops, Ames is right - Bake a cake (boxed or homemade), crumble it up, add frosting (canned or homemade).  Roll into balls, freeze for like 20 minutes.  Stick in a stick, coat in Candy Melt, add sprinkles.

After making them like 8 times in as many weeks, cake pops are the spwan of satan.  They are tedious, time consuming, and take a lot of patience to get them coated well and smooth.  And I don't think they taste *that* good for all the work they take.

Personally, I'd stick with supcakes, even mini cupcakes if you're looking for something bite-sized.  You could make cute pink lemonade mini cupcakes.  Would be cute, tasty, and way easier than cake pops.

  • I can't remember if it was the girl's blog I linked you to or someone else, but I've heard of making them by using donut holes instead of making the cake yourself. Kind of cheating, but much easier!
  • I think cupcakes are going to be it.. I dont have the time with Charlotte to mess with a mess!

I'm 100% in agreement on all of these things, even though I'm late.  Mini cupcakes are the way to go.
