In researching plastics recycling options for the Twin Cities, I've also discovered that Aveda has a program for recycling hard plastic bottle caps (e.g. from water bottles, shampoo, etc.).
Here's the website about the program: http://www.aveda.com/aboutaveda/caps.tmpl
And here's the info they emailed me about drop-off/mail-in locations in the Twin Cities:
Hello Laura,
Thank you for your interest in the ?Recycle Caps with Aveda? Program.
You may bring your caps in small amounts (1 shopping bag or 1 paper box) to any participating Aveda Experience Center (store). All other amounts will need to be sent in by mail to:

Aveda Experience Centers in Minnesota are located at Mall of America, Southdale Center, the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, and at our corporate offices here in Blaine.
Caps included in this collection are any plastic ?twist on? caps. Some examples are; water bottles, soda bottles, laundry detergent bottles, ketchup bottles, and shampoo/ conditioner bottles. Caps that are NOT included are any metal caps and any ?snap fit? plastic caps. Some examples of snap fit caps are; margarine and cottage cheese caps.
We also encourage you to speak with your local recycling provider about integrating #5 plastics collection in to their curbside service. This in-community integration was a main goal of the Recycle caps with Aveda program, and has started in some communities due to the efforts of individuals participating in our program.
We thank you in advance for your commitment to the environment.
