Book recommendations

I hardly ever make it over to the nest anymore - a little someone consumes much of my previous internet time;)

But - I got a nook the other week and would love some good book recs.

Thanks!

Re: Book recommendations

  • Kate Morton's books - The Forgotten Garden was teriffic and The House at Riverton was pretty good.

If you're at all into non-fiction, I'm a huge fan of Malcom Gladwell's books.  (Hardly the newest thing, but I happen to be reading Outliers now.)  He comes up with interesting theories about things like success and makes arguments so approachable.

For fluff, I'm listening to Matched by Ally Condie.  Sort of a dystopian story - Society matches teenagers with their future spouses, every decision seems made by the Society based on statistics.  It's YA, so interesting but not too hard to follow.

  • Devil in the White City by Erik Larsen - it's non-fiction and a fabulous read. At times I found it very hard to tear myself away.
  • Some of my favorites:  The Time Traveler's Wife, Charms for the Easy Life, Little Bee, The Blind Assasin, The Shadow of the Wind, Water for Elephants, In the Time of the Butterflies.  Also, anything by Jennifer Weiner, John Irving, Christopher Moore, Jane Hamilton, or Joanne Harris.

  • When I got my Nook I read and reread a lot of the classics since they were free!

Little Women, Treasure Island, Legend of Sleepy Hallow, etc.

  • in the last month I have read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Cutting for Stone and Sarah's Key. All excellent!
