Nobody scream at me for this, but I want to grow virginia creeper on a bank for erosion control. I'm hoping to transplant it from other areas in the garden, where I have a few volunteers growing (or maybe the previous owner planted them). I know they can get out of hand, but perhaps in our conditions they won't -- they haven't so far.
The question is, do they grow uphill when used as a groundcover? That is, should I plant the transplants at the bottom of the slope, or should I distribute them all over the slope -- the slope is only about 8' overall top to bottom. How far apart should they be planted? And how soon can I hope for total coverage?
Re: Virginia creeper on bank
LOL you can have mine! It's all over everything. My weekend ritual is to go around grabbing as much of it (and other weeds) as I can when I let the dog out. I can't ripe it out fast enough but I let it grow on a few sections of the fence and a couple trees for the red leaves in the fall.
Seriously you can come have all you want when you pick up that Dame's Rocket. When can you come pull...I mean collect it with me? If you keep collecting plants like those I think you'll have a very um successful garden.
To answer your question I'd plant it in a row or two though the middle. It will spread in all directions.
