They don't seem to really bother me, but there scare the bejesus out of my brother's girlfriend. Since she's at our house often since he lives here, I hear about all.the.damn.time. She seems to think we have an abnormal amount. In fact, she pointed out five of them to me this morning in our family room and claimed there were 6 of them in the bathroom.

I did google and found a spider spray (eeww), and am trying to figure out where/how they get in the house. Anyone else have experience with a few extra spiders? hehe
Re: Spiders
I generally don't mind spiders if they leave me alone but if I saw 5 in my house in one morning, I'd be upset too. That's too many spiders in my personal space.
We use Modern Pest for pest control. They come four times a year for treatments plus extra if needed. Today they're doing an off-cycle visit because the carpenter ants are coming in again. Yuck!
We get spiders from time to time in our house-- once, my SIL went to get a glass out of the cupboard and THANK GOODNESS she checked before pouring the milk in because there was a dead spider in the bottom of it!
We have an older house. The spiders get in. It happens. We have at least 3 in the house at any given time. At my childhood home in CT, we had spiders quite often, too. Especially in the basement, which had been finished everywhere but along an L-shaped back corridor.
Do you have a lot of bugs in your area? I mean, a steady and reliable food source would encourage spiders to hang out where they know they'll get easy food.
And while I think spiders can be scary when they drop on you unexpectedly (and for that reason I NEVER let them hang out in my bedroom), I also think they are a necessary and vital part of the food chain-- and heck, I abhore flies, gnats, and mosquitoes much more than spiders-- so I just usher them out of the house when I find 'em.
Personally, it's your house. If they don't bother you, I'd tell your brother's girlfriend she needs to just suck it up or leave. But then, I'm not as warm and welcoming as you are! LOL
(You could also give her links to the spiders in Australia or Brazil or something-- you know, ones that jump out of trees at their prey or lay eggs in your ears or are HUGE and hairy! That might help her keep your spiders in perspective...)
