Help Dress me!!!!

I just found out that DH and I are invited to a wedding in 2 weeks.  It's DH's co worker and the date was just decided on yesterday.  He's known the girl about 2 months and I believe it's an arranged marriage.

What do I wear to an Iranian wedding?  I asked the groom and he said consertive and nothing revealing or showing.  He said I might be ok wearing something short sleeve but 3/4 or a full length is preferred.  He said I could wear sandels though but any skirt or dress needs to be full length.  AAAHHHHH.... WHERE do I shop?

I'm a shorter heavier chic... well size 14 but with big boobs so anything is going to look frumpy.

Help!!!

  • What time of day?

  • Could you get away with a nicer maxi dress with a (buttoned) cardigan over it?  That way you'd have a non-frumpy dress that you could wear in the future...

I think that's a good idea. Or if it's fancier, a more formal long dress with a separate jacket (I say separate because if it's matchy matchy it will be very Mother of the Bride-ish)

That sounds cute. Get a big metallic necklace to go over it (and metallic sandals) so it's a little fancier.

  • Thanks... .It's on Sunday evening at 7.  I have looked at maxi dresss before but they make me look REALLY wide - muich wider than I am.  I am assuming it's going to be a little fanicer of a wedding.  All I really know is that there's no dancing, no alcohol and a lot of prayers and toasts.
  • I'm the same body type as you.  I was just at Nordstroms looking for a wedding outfit and I saw some great white slacks and a beautiful green silk blouse.  I believe they had a plus size sort of section with dressy clothes.  I saw a few cute outfits actually for a wedding, one dress had a shrug that went with it.  Something like that could work to cover the arms but you still have a cute summer dress

  • Hmm maxi dress was my first vote.  Long skirts are in this year.  So maybe pair that with cardigan and cami and a belt to define your waist.  The accessories that the pp mentioned would dress it up well.

  • I vote dress pants, a bright silk top and a cardigan.  I've been to two Indian weddings (both Muslim) and assuming the conventions are similar, you will see a wide range of clothing.  Most of the Iranian attendees will likely be in traditional garb. So something simple and cocktails after work dressy (in a modest way) would be perfect.  If you are near the Talbots Outlet in Springfield, they have a lot of cute silk dress tops and cardigans to choose from.
