I need advice... desperately.

H and I are about to begin getting our house ready to go on the market.

A few months ago, I planted flowers in the front garden.  Two weeks later, one of sprinkler heads went insane and the plumbers had to tear our garden apart to get to the main cutoff valve.  Most of my poor flowers didn't survive.

I am going to replant something there.  I have a bunch of those bushes that are usually cut in little balls.  (Sorry for being vague- I really have no idea what they are)  There are also a few other bushes.  A Japanese maple is the star, in the middle of the garden.  I feel like I need a bit more color in there too, but as of now, I only have about a 3x2 space.

Any recommendations on what to plant there?  If I do flowers, I need them to stick around for awhile so the garden will be presentable when prospective buyers visit.

Thanks in advance!

  • What state do you live in?  Can you post a picture of what you have?

  • I was actually thinking I should probably take a picture.  I'm in Alabama.  The area is full sun.

  • I would plant zinnias, marigolds, and pentas.  All are pretty heat and drought tolerant.

  • I just bought some random annuals for this exact purpose. They're expected to last through the summer.
