more car stuff

So I asked Volvo to do an analysis on my car to tell me what it's worth to either sell it to them or trade it.  I paid $46K for it in 2005.  It just had $8K of repairs done last week.  They tell me it is worth $11K.  This is why I hate car shopping.  Jerks.

I think I'll keep it for a while and wait for a good deal on an Enclave, Acadia, Traverse or something else that has 3 rows and is American made.

Re: more car stuff

  • Okay, #1- you paid WHAT??  OMG!  :)

I thought used car value has gone up in recent time?  No?  Strange.  I'd hang on to it if you can since you just sunk a bunch of money into it.  Frustrating!

    Exactly! Big Smile

I would try taking it to Carmax for an estimate.  Trade in value is always low.

It's fully loaded - leather, heated seats, automatic everything, etc etc.  When I bought it, I was told (1) the average life of a Volvo is 20 years; and (2) Volvos hold their value incredibly well.  Obviously that changed with the design flaw and use of a GM transmission.  If you google my car, the transmission problems are all over the internet.  Again, jerks.

  • Yikes!  I hate car shopping too.  Thank goodness we don't do it that often.

Definately keep it for awhile, maybe pricing will go back up?  Also, check Craigslist for what Volvo's are going for to get a feel for when you are ready to sell or trade-in.  We watched the pricing for a couple months or so before selling the Honda Civic (we got over $600 more than what dh thought!) and buying a new-to-us used Accord.

  • I wrote in your other post.  Keep the car and make the car payments to your savings account.  Build your stash to make car repairs/purchase a new car later.
  • Wow!  That's a hit...  Have you KBB'ed it to see what you could sell it for instead of trade??  That sucks!
