hardwood floor cleaning help please

hi all!

i need some help with my hard wood floors. i have a dog that sheds (*** hound) and i try to clean the floors multiple times a day (sweep) due to the babies crawling/walking around the floors. I sweep 4-5 times a day and then try to wash it every other day. the reason why is because it never seems clean, like right after i sweep (or i often use the swivel sweeper its easier) if i am down close to the floor i can see tons of dog fur around still, right after i sweep. its like nothing i can do gets all the fur up.

i cant mop it 4 times a day, and sometimes it seems like hand washing it is the only way i feel like the fur is actually gone, but that is very time consuming (and tiring!) and impractical to do a ffew times a day.

anyone have a dog and feel like you can really truly get the fur up? from a standing position it looks clean, but when i  am down there playing with the girsl etc i can totally see the fur and it drives me crazy. i want it clean!! lol

any tips?

thanks in advance

  • I had the same problem but with twins and 2 cats. I thought the swifter worked pretty well, and a vacuum after that. But it is a never ending problem so I would just use a lint roller on them after they were done crawling and I would have them spend more of  their time on a large area rug. They took a while to learn how to walk but now that they are walking it isnt as much of a problem.

  • ok I'll just try to deal with it, hehe. living room has large area rug but the dining room doesnt and they roam through both rooms, its sort of open concept, so i really cant just keep them on the area rug, unforch.

thanks for your reply, one is walking the other is crawling, but i just feel like until i was down on the floor playing with them i never noticed that even after sweeping there is still so much fur on the floor that really cant be seen from standing position.

    thanks again!

  • We have a husky-GSD mix, and a cat.  In the spring is worst, as the dog loses her winter undercoat, but even then it works great to sweep then use the steam mop.  I sweep 1-2x/day and use the steam mop ~1x/wk, but i don't have any kiddos crawling around.  It's quick to set up, use and put away, though, so you could do it more often.

The filtered part is also a derogatory term.

  • I thought that was funny when I saw it I thought she was cursing out her dog. Now I am wondering what the derogratory term is. It can't be a greyhound, Basathound?

What other hounds are there? What is the first letter?

  • can you get a roomba and run it a few times a day, or at least once after you go to bed? that might help keep up with it.

  • The only way we are able to get our hardwood floors perfectly clean is to vaccum with a hardwood floor attachment to pick everything up, then I will use a Bona mop to clean stuck on dirt/food. I use the swiffer sweeper vac when I want a quick clean - it works pretty well when there is dog hair that needs to be picked up, especially if the dog hair forms "tumble weeds" as we call them around the baseboards. We finally just moved our dogs outside because there just became too much hair for our little baby - he was always covered in it!

  •   I have the same kind of dog as you and I have the same never ending problem..everyday I use a microfiber dry mop and then the swiffer wet jet..still is an issue..I have thought about a rumba  sounds like it may work.
