We went and saw an ENT DR yesterday morning and after doing a full hearing test and a pressure test on his ear drums and looking in the ears, nose, and throat, they used a tuning fork to see range and frequency the DR said it was Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss. They never know what is the cause is but they were really glad that we were seeing them so soon. It started on Monday and we were to him by Thursday. It was also a good them that DH had started Steroids on Tuesday. Dr said that steroids have been the only thing proven to help.
He wrote a new script for DH to start today which was stronger and longer than what the family DR started us with, and then we go back in a week to do another hearing test. DR said that there was a 50% chance hearing would return but he can't say it would return to DH's normal but possible to normal standards. DH wasn't excited to hear that it's a kind of nerve damage but the possibility of gaining hearing back is keeping him going.
I had to work last night and when I got home he had a bit of an apitite, which he hadn't since Monday. He was playing the PS3 and I asked how he was and he said he though some of the hearing was starting to come back.
I asked for details and he said that he could taste
something draining and it tasted like sludge. Didn't have a real clear color to it but something was draining. He said he did a kilohertz test from his iPhone and there were still tones that he didn't hear at tall and some were static like b
ut he was about to pick up 17KH. ![]()
So maybe the steroids are working and maybe everything we've been doing the last few day is helping to. I've massged his back and neck the last few nights. My Mom went and got a whole Netti Pot kit and he tried that. Our next idea is to see a Chiropractor and see if getting an adjustment would help. Maybe some never in the back got tweaked or something??
I've been keeping his family (they still eff-ing suck) and my family and all our friends updated. I was so worried about him when I was at work last night I had a friend stop over last night and talk to him. This friends lives with some hearing loss and has a background in psychology and music. I've been amazed at the support that my family is giving us as well as our friends. My Mom was in near tears this whole week, like us and the offers to help have been great.
Here's hoping net weeks visit shows a ton of improvement!!!! Keep the T & P's coming![]()
Re: Update on my DH's hearing....
That is amazing to me that you can just wake up one morning and have complete hearing loss in one ear. I had no idea. I googled the syndrom that you named, because I'm curious. Very intersting... and scary.
It sounds like it's great that he got medical attention almost right away. Hopefully, that, along with the steroids, will lead to a full recovery.
It sounds very frustrating though. I'll be thinking of you guys!
